Nourish your skin naturally

People spend so much money on skincare products all in the name of looking younger. It is very important to take good care of our skin, but when we slather chemical filled products on it, it’s actually creating more issues to your skin and overall health.

You may not think that there could be anything wrong with a product you buy at the store because why would they sell something that would harm you???

Well I’m here to tell you that many products that are sold in stores and other places are full of toxins that are harming your overall health. They make products as cheap as possible, and they do this by using cheap toxic ingredients!

Your skin is the largest organ on your body, it absorbs everything into your body. So if you put a product on your skin every day, and those chemicals are absorbed into your bloodstream everyday, this will build up in your system causing disease.

So let’s go through what happens…you apply a moisturizer to your face and body. The lotion has parabans, phthalates, formaldehyde, petroleum, fragrance, and probably a few other toxic compounds. You apply it to your skin getting ready in the morning and you think you’re nourishing your skin…but really you are flooding your body with toxins.

Once absorbed through the skin, these chemicals go into the bloodstream and circulates through the body. These chemicals go through the lymphatic system, liver, kidneys, pancreas and intestines. The human body was not meant to process these chemicals, so over time they build up in the organs putting stress on the body. The liver is the main detoxifying organ, but when these chemicals build up in the liver, the liver holds on to them, then they affect other organs. These toxins over time can lead to hormone disruption and cancer. So those things you are applying daily, are making you sick.

So how can you make changes to healthier personal care products?

First, make sure you are reading ingredients whenever you are buying anything! This is very important because some products are labeled as “natural”, “non-toxic”, or “clean ingredients” but when you read the ingredients you will still find toxic ingredients. So you cannot trust the labeling because it can be deceiving.

The ingredients you want to avoid are…

Parabans

Phthalates

Formaldehyde

Fragrance

Triclosan

Sodium laureth sulfate

Butylated hydroxytoluene

Petroleum

Mineral Oil

Oxybenzone

Phenoxyethenol

Synthetic colors

Siloxane

If you see these ingredients in a product you are about to purchase, put it back!

Look for products with a minimal ingredient list. Also look for organic ingredients. Fragrance is something that is added to so many things and is a hormone disruptor, so make sure what you are using does not contain fragrance and maybe has essential oils for a good smell.

Products that you are using daily that could have these hidden chemicals are face wash, face serums and lotions, makeup, deodorant, shaving cream, body wash/soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair styling products, body lotions, nail polish, sunscreen, perfume (which no one should use!), toothpaste and mouthwash. So make sure you are reading! It’s important to your health!

There are apps you can use when checking products like EWG healthy living , Think dirty, or Yuka. These can help you get started.

You can make your own products which is a way to make sure you are using clean ingredients. This can be a fun thing to do! You can also find very clean products to use out there!

I personally make some products that I sell in my Etsy shop that are made from grass fed tallow, organic oils and essential oils! Tallow is one of the most nourishing and natural things for your skin! Check out the products I offer…

It can be overwhelming to change everything at once, so my suggestion is to change one thing at a time so this process of changing to clean non-toxic products does not become overwhelming.

Making these changes will help your health and the health of your family…you must be proactive when it comes to health!
